Awaneesh Verma, Distinguished Product Manager for Search, emphasized that these updates are engineered to be "safe by design," providing a robust toolkit for students navigating everything from introductory coursework to rigorous standardized testing.

1. Interactive Visuals for Complex Concepts

Static textbook pages often fall short when explaining dynamic or multi-dimensional phenomena. To bridge this gap, Google is introducing generative UI capabilities that allow Search to create custom simulations on the fly.

If a student is struggling with a topic like pH levels, they can perform a standard search to trigger an interactive visual within an AI Overview. The utility goes further by allowing for follow-up queries; for instance, a user can request to plot specific citrus fruits on a pH scale. By utilizing "AI Mode," students can describe the exact type of visual or tool they require, and the system will generate a bespoke experience tailored to their specific inquiry. These generative UI features are currently rolling out globally in English.

2. Personalized Practice Quizzes

Retention is the cornerstone of effective studying, and Google is now integrating customized practice quizzes directly into the Search experience. These assessments cover a vast array of disciplines, including mathematics, science, humanities, and foreign languages.

"Just search for something like 'create a quiz with the most commonly tested vocab words to help me prep for the SAT.' Search will give you an interactive quiz that includes explanations for each response and links to learn more, so you can truly master the material."

Through strategic partnerships with educational heavyweights—including The Princeton Review, Careers360, PhysicsWallah, and Akira Enem—these quizzes utilize authoritative, high-quality content. Students can generate practice material for major standardized exams, such as:

• ACT and SAT
• AP and GRE
• LSAT and MCAT
• JEE, NEET, and ENEM

These quizzes are available now, free of charge, in both AI Overviews and AI Mode.

3. Lens: A Personal Tutor in Your Pocket

In the coming weeks, Google will enhance its Lens functionality to provide a more interactive, step-by-step learning experience. By tapping the Lens camera icon within the Google app on Android or iOS, students can capture an image of a specific problem or concept they are struggling to grasp.

The resulting AI Overview will not only provide a comprehensive explanation but will also act as a coach, identifying potential errors in the student's work and offering guidance on how to correct them. If the initial explanation isn't enough, users can transition into AI Mode to ask follow-up questions, ensuring they fully understand the underlying logic before moving forward.

4. Centralizing Knowledge with Notebooks

Organization is often the greatest hurdle for students juggling multiple classes. To address this, Google is bringing its popular Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM) directly into AI Mode.

This feature allows students to create dedicated digital "notebooks" for individual subjects or projects. Users can populate these spaces with a variety of source materials, including:

• Relevant web articles
• Previous AI Mode conversation threads

By centralizing these resources, students can query their own documents to extract insights or synthesize information. Furthermore, these notebooks sync across the Google ecosystem, ensuring that work started in the Gemini app or previous sessions is immediately accessible within Search. This feature is currently rolling out to over 180 countries.

5. Streamlining Study Materials with Custom Files

The final piece of this educational update focuses on productivity. Instead of manually aggregating scattered notes and documents, students can now prompt Search to generate cohesive study guides based on their uploaded files.

For example, a student can upload a collection of handwritten notes and lecture slides, then ask the AI to produce a single-page summary outlining the most critical concepts. This functionality, which supports formats like spreadsheets, slide presentations, and text documents, is designed to save time and reduce the cognitive load of organizing study materials. Custom file creation is already available globally in English via AI Mode and is slated for an upcoming release in AI Overviews.
