Google is doubling down on its Alabama operations, announcing a massive $1.5 billion investment slated for 2026 and 2027. This capital injection will significantly scale the company’s data center campus in Jackson County, a site that has successfully operated on a former coal-plant foundation since 2019.
Powering Growth and Infrastructure
The expansion project emphasizes self-sufficiency, with Google committing to fund the entirety of its infrastructure and power requirements. To bolster regional energy resilience, the company is launching a $2 million Energy Impact Fund in collaboration with the TVA and CAANEAL, specifically targeting local weatherization and efficiency initiatives.
Community Impact Highlights
Beyond infrastructure, Google is deepening its social footprint:
- STEM Education: A $550,000 donation will provide essential STEM kits to local students in grades four through eight.
- Digital Empowerment: Over 130,000 Alabamians have already received digital skills training.
