Viral AI startup Instinct has raised $350M at a $2.5B valuation

In a meteoric rise that underscores the relentless investor appetite for artificial intelligence, Instinct—a startup barely a year old—has secured a massive $250 million Series B funding round. This latest injection of capital brings the company’s total funding to $350 million, catapulting the firm to a staggering $2.5 billion valuation.

A Rapid Ascent

The funding round was co-led by prominent venture capital firms Index Ventures and Benchmark. Spearheaded by 23-year-old founder Noah Shinn, the company operates under the umbrella of Spear Street Technology. Despite its short lifespan, the startup has captured significant market attention with its AI-driven personal assistant.

What Instinct Does

The platform functions as an autonomous agent designed to streamline daily life. By integrating with a user’s existing suite of applications and hardware, the AI can be commanded via text or voice. According to Shinn, the utility of the tool is already proving diverse:

“I’m thrilled with everything our early users are doing with Instinct. They’ve told us they’ve planned cross-country road trips, bought weekly groceries and concert tickets, and cancelled hundreds of dollars of subscriptions. Someone’s even planning their wedding with Instinct.”

Privacy Concerns Loom

While the technology has generated significant hype, it has not been without controversy. Currently operating in private beta with a minimalist, lo-fi web presence, the startup has faced intense scrutiny regarding its data practices. Critics and early users have raised alarms over the app’s extensive permission requirements and terms of service, which many fear are overly invasive.

As Instinct scales, the challenge will be balancing its rapid growth and high-profile valuation with the growing demand for transparency and user privacy in the AI sector.
