Anthropic merges Claude chat and Cowork in one interface

Anthropic is streamlining its user experience by consolidating its Claude chat and Cowork interfaces into a single, unified window. This strategic update aims to eliminate the friction users previously faced when deciding which tab or tool was best suited for specific workflows.

A Unified Workspace

By merging these environments, Anthropic ensures that Chat, Cowork, and the interactive Artifacts workspace are all accessible from one location. Furthermore, Claude Design—the prototyping tool launched in April—is now integrated globally across the platform.

The core philosophy behind this redesign is intelligent routing. Rather than forcing users to manually toggle between different sections of the app, the system now automatically directs requests to the appropriate engine. This shift is intended to simplify the user journey, potentially setting a benchmark for competitors like OpenAI to refine their own fragmented platform interfaces.

New Capabilities for Productivity

Beyond the interface overhaul, Anthropic is introducing specialized tools for document and presentation management:

  • Presentation Tools: Users can prompt the AI to generate, refine, and present slide decks. These can be exported directly as PDFs or PowerPoint files.
  • Docs Feature: This collaborative tool allows users to build out sections, pose questions, and leave comments on specific segments of a document.
  • Cross-Platform Continuity: Generated content can be shared via links and edited on mobile devices. Users can initiate a document on their desktop and monitor the progress of the task in real-time via the mobile app.

"The idea is to remove confusion about which feature to pick and use just one front end to route work to different parts of the app."

Rollout and Availability

These enhancements are currently being deployed to Pro and Max plan subscribers across web, desktop, and mobile platforms. Anthropic has confirmed that these features will eventually reach free and team-tier users in the coming weeks.

This update follows a recent enhancement to Cowork’s memory layer, which significantly improves Claude’s ability to retain user context across multiple sessions. As Anthropic continues to refine its ecosystem, the focus remains on creating a more cohesive and intuitive AI-assisted workspace.
